FAQs

Some A’s for your burning Q’s about therapy

How do I know that it is time to seek therapy?

When you find yourself getting stuck on the same problem and have tried ways of making it better, but nothing changes, this is usually a sign that therapy may be helpful.

How often do I have to go to therapy?

Just like any new routine, consistency is key, so weekly sessions are always recommended.

What if I don’t like therapy after starting?

Finding a therapist that is a good match can take some time, so clear communication with your therapist is important.

What should I expect during the first session?

During the first session we will review consent forms and ask additional questions about your needs. The first session is our chance to get to know each other, so expect to have conversations about yourself. This will also be your opportunity to ask your therapist questions.

I don’t have a babysitter, can I bring my baby to session?

We always consider this on a case by case basis, and we encourage you to consider what is best for your situation and needs. It is easiest when babies can still be held in your arms, which is typically 0-6 months.

Who decides what is talked about during therapy?

During the first session you and your therapist will discuss treatment goals, and this is utilized to guide the focus of sessions.

How is talking to my therapist different from talking to my best friend?

Friends are wonderful resources for support and advice. Therapists can also provide this, however, we have specialized training to go beyond “just” giving advice. We help you identify the things you want to change, and help you take action to accomplish your goals.

Can you prescribe medication?

This is a common question. We are licensed clinical social workers, not doctors or psychiatrists, therefore, we cannot. Only licensed medical professionals can do so. If you are seeking medication support, we can help with referrals, or also recommend that you talk to your primary care physician.

How much will it cost? Do you accept insurance?

Each session is $175 for 50 minutes. We do not accept insurance, but if you have a PPO, we provide a superbill you submit for reimbursement.
